Elementary Advice
Thursday, February 5th, 2009When I was in second grade I entered a contest sponsored by my local newspaper to either write or draw my thoughts on “How To Save the Environment.” Well, as you can see above I must have made some pretty good points to be the Grand Prize Winner.
I think my favorite part is “But some people do litter, but you know not to so you can help and pick up their trash.” While this is funny for me to pull out and look at … it’s also just a good reminder that we can all do simple everyday things to create positive change. It can seem overwhelming to look at daunting global problems to overcome, but attacking those starts small and in our homes, communities and cities.
After pulling my essay out I decided to ask Avery & William, my first grade niece and nephew, to come up with some ideas of their own. Here’s some tips they reported back to me:
1. Grow things & keep the world safe
2. Save paper – use both sides
3. Walk instead of drive
4. Turn off the water when you brush your teeth
There you go – some Elementary inspiration for the day!
